Local Outreach

Living the Gospel at Home

From food donations to local schools, to teaching ESL classes to immigrants and refugees, to befriending Akron International students during Friday dinners and more – there are so many ways to serve our neighbors in Akron for the sake of the gospel.

There are two regular ways we serve our local schools here in Akron.

Follow a day in the life of the Good News Club!

School Ministry

We partner with several Akron public schools - Mason, Leggett, McEbright and Glover - right in our backyard, bringing all kinds of programs to students and their families. The programs include:

  • Good News Clubs

  • Mom’s Groups

  • Holiday outreaches

International Outreach

Learn about our Akron Internationals ministry.

Akron Internationals seeks to connect with and enrich the lives of international students, immigrants, and refugee families in our city. Our hope is to build friendships, and bridges for the gospel, as we foster community through events like:

  • ESL classes - offered twice weekly

  • Airport pickups and temporary housing for new students

  • Friday night dinners

  • Inviting students into our homes to share a meal

  • Discover Groups - small studies where we learn more about Jesus, Christianity and the Bible

Akron Internationals Cookbook

The Akron Internationals cookbook began as an idea for international students and families to give back to Chapel volunteers.

By offering recipes from their home countries, our international friends shared a window into their cultures and customs. It seemed only fitting that their favorites be compiled into a cookbook, so more people could enjoy these authentic dishes at home.

The AI Cookbook is available by request at the Fir Hill Desk for a suggested donation of $10.

Meets second Thursday each month (break in Jan.)
10am – 2pm | Room 156

Workers for Christ, the longest running ministry of The Chapel, is a small-but-mighty team of bandage makers offering their gifts to serve those in need. The ministry started when Agnes Burnham (Founding Pastor Carl Burnham’s wife) and her friends made sandwiches and cookies—packed with gospel tracts—for soldiers in World War II. From after that war until now, they have been rolling handmade bandages for missions work around the world.

They love to teach new skills to anyone with a desire to learn, so beginners are welcome! Contact the Outreach Department to learn how you can get involved.
